Slurry pumps are used to convey the fluids to a higher and certain distance than their level. The pumps also provide the required fluid pressure at the outlet of the fluid they pump from the pipeline. This pressure is required for some process machines, especially the cyclone.
The important thing for the pumps is to ensure correct working conditions.
Calculation of Motor Power in Slurry Pumps
The efficiency of centrifugal slurry pumps varies depending on the outlet diameter. For example, while the efficiency is 30% in a slurry pump with a 25 mm outlet, it may reach over 75% in a pump with a 250 mm outlet.
The approximate motor power requirement of slurry pumps operating with 55% efficiency can be calculated with the following formula.
H = Head, meter (also add 1 m for every 10 m pipe, 1 m for every 90o elbow and 10 m for hydrocyclones.)
